80 in a 65. $168. But the kicker is now that I cannot get my full licence for an additional 6 months incident free. And there will likely be a 30 day suspension on my license, as it was a moving violation on a intermediary license.
*sigh*
I know its my fault, and I accept full responsibility. It just sucks.
Carry on.

Thats harsh...i got a speeding ticket before i had my “official” license and didn’t get a suspension

To be fair I’m not sure if there will be a suspension. But according to my dad the lawyer, 95% of moving violations on an intermediary license result in a suspension between 30 days and 1 year.
Heres hoping I’m the 5%.

Go to court...might be able to do traffic school or something and not lose privileges.

I have no desire to contest it, there’s no way I would do any better than I am now. I am going to the court house tomorrow to write a check, and then in a few days I’ll get a nicely worded letter from the DMV detailing my punishment.

Seriously...check Lehto’s advice first.

I got a ticket in my first month of driving. Going 36 in a 25. Ugh.

When I was 17(restrictions end at 18 for Alabama), I got pulled over for doing 23 over in a 45. The officer didn’t even give me a written warning. He was more interested in where I had been.

someone beat me to it. listen to the lehto advice first. especially the part about getting points, and stuff on your record. you dont want to pay the rate hike in insurance for a kid your age with a ticket.

I'm not remembering which podcast it was, but he made a very good point somewhere that if you subsequently get a ticket you don't deserve, you're much less likely to get out of it if you already have points on your license. Moral of the story came down to keeping your record as clean as possible from the get go, regardless of how deserved the ticket was.

I also got pulled over for doing “71" in a 60 a few weeks ago. I use quotation marks, because my GPS read 63 and I was going down a hill. I’ve tested my GPS many times, because my speedometer hasn’t worked for 2 years. No ticket then either, though I have to think that has to do with the trooper knowing it was bullshit.

Buy a $30 radar detector off amazon. Speed all day every day. Er, I mean slow down, follow posted signage etc. Etc.
Seriously though look for a program that wipes the ticket off the record. I was in the same situation and went to something called teen court. Lowered the fine by 50% and no suspension/insurance trouble.

Yeah, but don’t forget that you have a shit load of laser guns in North America... Your radar detector will detect them but it will be too late. You need laser jammers too and good a good one with 3 captors will run you around 1000$

this is why I love WA state...
7 months after getting my license I got booked in my mom’s jetta with my mom in the car.
speed? 89 in a 60 (whoops)
ticket? $247.change
results? I paid for it, very small increase in insurance ($100 more annually for 3 yrs) and a letter telling me to not get stopped until I’m 18.

There's no defensive driving course you can take so it won't go on your record? That's what I did when I was 17 and got caught 58 in a 35 (country road too).

I’ll look into it, but I talked to my legal advisor (my father) and it didn’t sound like there was one available. But it sounds like its worth the look.
